NEWARK, Del., April 18, 2009 ? Freshman right-hander Evan Scott (Haymarket, Va./Battlefield) allowed just three hits in eight innings as James Madison defeated Delaware 8-3 in the second game of a Colonial Athletic Association baseball series on Saturday afternoon at Bob Hannah Stadium.

JMU won its sixth straight game to improve to 23-17 overall and claimed its fourth in a row in the CAA to jump to 8-6. UD fell to 21-14 overall and 7-7 in the league. The Dukes won for the sixth straight time against the Blue Hens and the 10^th time in 12 games.

Scott allowed just two hits and no runs through the first eight innings to improve to 4-3. He finished with three hits and two runs, one earned, with a career-high nine strikeouts. Pitching one day after his birthday, Scott never faced more than four batters in an inning. He allowed just one runner in scoring position, which came on a passed ball, before the two runs scored in the ninth.

For JMU's pitching staff, it was the third time allowing six or fewer hits in the last four games as the Blue Hens finished with five. The staff has a 1.80 ERA over the last five victories with a .211 opponent batting average.

Junior left fielder Matt Browning (Mystic, Conn./Fitch) led the JMU offense, going 3-for-5 with three RBIs, including a two-run home run. Redshirt junior right fielder Matt Townsend (Lorton, Va./Hayfield) had two hits and three RBIs with a two-run home run in the seventh to extend his hitting streak to 30 games.

Sophomore third baseman McKinnon Langston (Tallahassee, Fla./North Florida Christian) went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs, and two walks. Redshirt sophomore first baseman Trevor Knight (Charlottesville, Va./St. Anne's-Belfield) had two singles and scored twice to run his streak to 19 games.
