HARRISONBURG, Va., April 3, 2009 ? Sophomore Turner Phelps (Roanoke, Va./Lord Botetourt) pitched seven strong innings and James Madison hit three home runs in a 7-3 win over Old Dominion in the opener of a three-game Colonial Athletic Association baseball series on Friday afternoon at Long Field/Mauck Stadium.

JMU improved to 16-13 overall and 4-3 in the CAA while snapping a three-game losing skid. ODU fell to 8-17 overall and 2-5 in the league.

Phelps improved to 6-0 on the season and 14-0 in his career. He allowed three runs on eight hits with three walks and five strikeouts in seven innings. He teamed with sophomore Kevin Munson (Roanoke, Va./Cave Spring) on a victory for the sixth time this season. Munson picked up his sixth save with two no-hit innings.

Freshman Brett Harris fell to 3-3 for the Monarchs after allowing six runs, including five in the first inning, on 12 hits with four strikeouts in seven innings.

All nine hitters in the JMU lineup had a hit. Freshman catcher Jake Lowery (Midlothian, Va./Cosby) was 2-for-3 with his first collegiate home run. Junior center fielder Alex Foltz (Mathias, W.Va./East Hardy), sophomore shortstop David Herbek (Haymarket, Va./Battlefield), and sophomore third baseman McKinnon Langston (Tallahassee, Fla./North Florida Christian) each went 2-for-4. Junior left fielder Matt Browning (Mystic, Conn./Fitch) smacked a three-run homer while redshirt senior designated hitter Bryan Lescanec (Charlottesville, Va./Western Albemarle) also homered.

Senior center fielder Max Most was 3-for-3 with a walk to reach base in every plate appearance for ODU. Junior third baseman Jake McAloose was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Sophomore left fielder Donnie Corsner hit a two-run homer.
