RADFORD, Va., April 8, 2009- The James Madison men's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to No. 56 Radford in its final road match of the season.
JMU fell to 7-14 overall while Radford won its 33rd straight at home and concluded its regular season with an 18-3 record.
Led by the 48th-ranked doubles team in the nation, Martin Sayer and Zack Watson, Radford swept all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead in the match. Sayer and Watson defeated Madison's No. 1 singles team of junior Mike Smith (Fairfax Station, Va./Robinson) and sophomore Matt King (Lorton, Va./Robinson) 8-0.
The Highlanders continued to control the match in singles play, winning all six matches in two sets. Senior Brian Rubenstein (East Hampton, N.Y./East Hampton) gave RU the best challenge, losing 6-3, 6-3 to Stefan Bojic at No. 3.
The Dukes will close out their regular season on Saturday (April 11) as they'll host George Washington in their final tune-up before the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament.
