TRIBE TOPS DUKES 12-3 IN GAME TWO

WILLIAMSBURG, Va., May 2, 2009 ? William & Mary's five through eight hitters combined for eight hits and 10 RBIs and Kevin Landry held James Madison to one run over six innings in a 12-3 victory in game two of a Colonial Athletic Association baseball series on Saturday at Plumeri Park.
The game started at 4 p.m. and endured a four hour and 20 minute rain delay until 9:35. With the win, W&M improved to 22-22 overall and 9-11 in the CAA. JMU fell to 28-21 overall and 11-9 in the league.
Landry started for the Tribe and returned to the mound after the lengthy delay. He improved to 3-5 after allowing one run on seven hits with three strikeouts and two walks in six innings.
Freshman Evan Scott (Haymarket, Va./Battlefield) took the loss after allowing six runs, all in the first, on six hits with three walks in three innings. Fellow freshman Josh Futter (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake) pitched 2 1/3 no-hit innings of relief.
Designated hitter Brett Conner was 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and three RBIs for the Tribe. First baseman Tadd Bower also had three hits with three RBIs and two runs. Second baseman James Williamson had a two-run homer. Third baseman Tyler Stampone scored three times with two walks and two hit by pitches but also had an 18-game hitting streak snapped with a strikeout in his final at bat in the eighth.
Junior third baseman Matt Browning (Mystic, Conn./Fitch) was 3-for-4 with a double for the Dukes. Redshirt sophomore first baseman Trevor Knight (Charlottesville, Va./St. Anne's-Belfield) had two hits with a double and two RBIs. Redshirt junior center fielder Matt Townsend (Lorton, Va./Hayfield) and junior second baseman Mike Fabiaschi (Torrington, Conn./Torrington) also had two hits apiece.
