NORFOLK, Va., Oct. 27, 2010 - James Madison senior CJ Sapong (Manassas, Va./Forest Park) scored twice in the final four minutes to lead the Dukes to a 2-0 win at Old Dominion in Colonial Athletic Association men's soccer Wednesday night.
The Dukes improved their overall record of 8-5-2 and their CAA record to 3-4-1 as JMU ended a three-game losing streak.
ODU, which was ranked in the Top 25 earlier this season, has a 7-6-2 overall record and is 3-4-2 in CAA play. The Monarchs suffered their third straight loss.
Sapong's goals came just 38 seconds apart, with the first coming at 86:18 and the second at 86:56.
Sophomore Markus Bjørkheim (Bergen, Norway/Fana Gymnas) was credited with an assist on Sapong's first goal, and the second score came on a deflection.
JMU held a slight 13-11 advantage on shots, and senior goalkeeper Ken Manahan (Fredericksburg, Va./Chancellor) made five saves in recording his fifth shutout of the season. ODU goalkeeper Evan Newton finished with four saves.
NOTES:
* CJ Sapong increased his career totals to 36 goals and 92 points. He moved from eighth to sixth on JMU's all-time points list, passing Mike Brizendine (90 points, 1995-98) and Atle Rognerud (91 points, 1997-00).
* ODU had not lost to JMU in the previous four meetings (3-0-1 record).
