WILMINGTON, N.C., Feb. 28, 2010 - James Madison men's tennis dropped a 6-1 decision to conference-foe No. 51 UNC Wilmington at the UNCW Tennis Courts in Wilmington, N.C. on Sunday.
The loss drops JMU to 4-5 overall and 0-3 in the Colonial Athletic Association, while Wilmington improved to 7-1 this season and 1-0 in the CAA.
The Seahawks jumped out to an early 1-0 lead by sweeping all three doubles matches, including an 8-3 win over senior Mike Smith (Fairfax Station, Va./Robinson) and junior Matt King (Lorton, Va./Robinson). Smith and King entered the match ranked 38th in the nation by itatennis.com.
UNCW continued to roll in singles play, winning the top five matches without dropping a set before sophomore Jovan Milic (Belgrade, Serbia/Belgrade Sports School) stopped Max Ando Hirsh 7-6 (9-7), 7-6 (7-3).
The Dukes return to the courts next Sunday, March 7, for another CAA showdown, taking on in-state rival Old Dominion in Norfolk, Va.
