BIG INNINGS LEAD NORTH FLORIDA PAST JMU 22-19

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., March 12, 2010 - North Florida posted two innings with six runs apiece and another frame with five runs to record a 22-19 baseball win over James Madison on Friday afternoon in the Kennel Club Classic at UNF's Harmon Stadium.
JMU led 3-0 when UNF struck for three in the second to tie. The Ospreys then poured on six in the third and six in the fourth to take a commanding 15-5 lead through four innings. The Dukes posted 14 runs in the final four innings, including eight in the ninth, but another five-run outburst by UNF in the eighth sealed the victory.
John Atteo was the winning pitcher despite allowing four runs on four hits in 2 2/3 innings for UNF. Redshirt senior Jason Kuhn (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) took the loss for JMU. In his first career start, he allowed six runs on seven hits in two innings.
Shortstop Andrew Hannon paced the North Florida offense, going 4-for-6 with seven RBIs, all in the first four innings. He had a two-run single, a three-run home run, and a two-run home run. Designated hitter T.J. Thompson was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a home run. Right fielder Preston Hale was 4-for-6 while third baseman Ryan Roberson and second baseman Steve Hillan each went 3-for-4. First baseman Andrew Karmeris and center fielder Justin Preckajlo each also had home runs.
Junior shortstop David Herbek (Haymarket, Va./Battlefield) and senior left fielder Matt Browning (Mystic, Conn./Fitch) each drove in four runs for the Dukes. Herbek was 3-for-6 while Browning was 2-for-3 with a home run and three walks. Freshman center fielder Johnny Bladel (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge) had two hits, two walks, two RBIs, and four runs scored. Redshirt senior right fielder Matt Townsend (Lorton, Va./Hayfield) and redshirt senior catcher Brett Garner (Burke, Va./Lake Braddock) each had home runs, the third of the season for Townsend. Sophomore designated hitter Jake Lowery (Midlothian, Va./Cosby) was 3-for-6.
The game was part of a doubleheader for JMU as the Dukes also had an evening contest at UNF against Illinois State.
