James Madison Athletics Announces 2010 Hall of Fame Class

HARRISONBURG, Va., August 19, 2010 - James Madison University will induct seven people in its 2010 class for the JMU Athletics Hall of Fame, the school announced today. Among the inductees are former student-athletes Lindsay Collingwood (volleyball), Samantha Bates Floyd (track and field), Ryan Frost (men's swimming), Clyde Hoy (football), Shelley Klaes-Bawcombe (lacrosse) and Pat McSorley (men's soccer) and former Head Men's Swimming Coach Brooks Teal. The ceremony will take place on Thursday, October 14, as part of JMU's Homecoming Weekend activities, with the group also being recognized at the Oct. 16 home football game against New Hampshire.
The induction ceremony of the 23rd group of honorees will be held October 14 at the JMU Festival Conference & Student Center Grand Ballroom, with a cocktail hour at 6 p.m. and dinner and program at 7 p.m. Tickets are $45 for an individual, $85 for a couple or $325 for a table of eight and can be purchased by contacting the JMU Ticket Office at 540-568-DUKE (3853) or through the online ticket service at www.JMUSports.com.
Lindsay Collingwood – Volleyball Collingwood was one of the top volleyball players in JMU history, earning four straight First Team All-CAA and First Team All-State honors. She was the 1996 CAA Rookie of the Year and followed it with the 1999 CAA Player of the Year, CAA Tournament MVP and VaSID Player of the Year honors after leading the Dukes to their first of two straight Colonial Athletic Association championships and first consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance. Leading JMU to a 90-36 mark during her four-year career, she holds the JMU career records for kills, kill average, attempts, aces and ace average while also ranking int he top 10 in games played, digs and dig average. She ranks in JMU's top 10 ranks for seven single season statistics 25 times, more than any other player in history, including single season marks for kills, attempts and kill average.
Samantha Bates Floyd– Track & Field A member of the CAA 25th Anniversary track and field team, Bates Floyd was JMU's 1996-97 Female Athlete of the Year for her abilities in both cross country and track. In cross country, Bates Floyd was a NCAA All-Region selection in 1996 while earning All-America honors twice in 1997 in the NCAA Championships indoor mile and indoor distance medley relay, finishing eighth in both events. She also qualified to run the outdoor 1,500 meters at the 1997 NCAA Championships, placing 19th. A three-time CAA Champion and five-time All-ECAC selection, she still holds seven school records in three indoor (mile, 4x800 relay, distance medley relay) and four outdoor (1,500 meters, 3,000 meterse, 4x800 relay, distance medley relay) events. Ryan Frost – Swimming A standout member of the men's swimming and diving team from 1993-97, Frost was the CAA Swimmer fo the Year and JMU's Male Athlete of the Year as a senior in 1997. He was the 1994 CAA Rookie of the Year as a freshman and a two-time CAA Most Outstanding Meet Performer in 1995 and 1997, helping the Dukes to four conseuctive CAA and three ECAC crowns. Individually, he won the CAA 100 breaststroke in each of his four years and advanced to the NCAA meet in two events his senior year, finishing 25th in the 100 breaststroke and 26th in the 200 breaststroke. He later went on to be a member of the coaching staff from 1999-2001, helping direct the Dukes to the CAA Championship during the 2000-01 campaign. Clyde Hoy – Football Hoy was a four-year letterwinner from 1978-81, helping lead JMU's transition from Division III football (1978) through Division II (1979) to Division I-AA (1980-81).
