HARRISONBURG, Va., March 18, 2012 - The James Madison men's tennis team defeated St. Francis (Pa.) 6-1 on Sunday. With the win the Dukes improved to 5-6 while the Red Flash fell to 2-10.
Madison grabbed the lead early and never slowed down, sweeping doubles play to start the match. Bertrand Moulin and Bastien Russo topped the Red Flash's Nate Fleming and Andres Rosa 8-6. Ryan Pool and Florent Sentenac followed at No. 2 doubles, picking up the win over Sergio Cavajel and Chris Jimenez 8-4 to earn the doubles point for JMU. Hugo Ramadier and Greg Vladimirsky completed the doubles sweep, downing Lawson Barter and Juan Pardo 8-1.
Vladimirsky kept the momentum going for the Dukes, earning a straight-set singles victory at the No. 1 spot, 6-0, 6-1. Pool followed with another straight-setter at No. 2 singles, defeating Rosa 6-1, 6-2, and Moulin topped Carvajel at No. 3 singles by the same score.
St. Francis (Pa.) picked up its sole point of the match at No. 4 singles. Barter won the first set over Sentenac, 6-3, before the JMU junior was forced to retire the match.
Tommi Nissinen and Russo rounded out play in Nos. 5 and 6 singles, respectively. Nissinen topped Jimenez, 6-0, 6-1, and Russo took down Pardo by the same margin.
JMU continues its home stand, taking on Liberty Tuesday, March 20 at 2 p.m.
