ANNAPOLIS, Md., Sept. 14, 2012 -- Navy (8-1-0) won its seventh straight game as the Midshipmen edged James Madison (2-5-0) 3-2 in women's soccer Friday night at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility.
Navy, which won for the first time in four meetings with the Dukes, scored twice in less than two minutes to take its first lead of the game at 3-2 with less than 20 minutes remaining.
JMU lost a one-goal decision for the fourth time this season.
Junior Lauren Wilson (Coatesville, Pa./Downingtown) got the Dukes on the scoreboard in the 24th minute, scoring from 15 yards. The goal was assisted by redshirt senior Kelly Germain (McLean, Va./Langley).
Navy evened the game in the 32nd minute when Morgan Dankanich scored on a 15-yard shot. Assists on the play were credited to Paloma Perez and Rachel Hunter.
Just before halftime, Wilson made a long run down field before passing the ball to sophomore Katie Hyland (Islip, N.Y./Islip), who scored to put JMU ahead 2-1 with 3:31 remaining in the opening period.
The Midshipmen again tied the game in the 70th minute, as Caprice Kelty knocked in a shot off a rebound. Kaylie Davidson made the initial shot, which was stopped by Dukes redshirt freshman goalkeeper Ellen Forest (Midlothian, Va./James River), but the ball rebounded to Kelly for the goal.
Just 1:41 later Navy scored what proved to be the game winner. The play started with a corner kick by Julie Schumacher, and the ball was then flicked by Kelty to Lizzy Rulian, who put the ball into the net.
JMU out-shot Navy 19-12, and Forrest made five saves. Navy goalie Elizabeth Hoerner made six saves.
After four straight road games, JMU returns to University Park Sunday for a 1 p.m. contest vs. Charlotte.
