WILMINGTON, N.C., Oct. 12, 2013 – UNCW broke a scoreless tie with a goal in the 55th minute in a 1-0 win over James Madison in a Colonial Athletic Association men's soccer game Saturday night.
Jack Ward came through with the lone goal of the game for the Seahawks (6-4-1, 2-1-0 CAA), scoring on a deflection off a cross by Jamie Dell. It was Ward's second goal of the season.
Sam Williams made two saves to record the shutout. JMU junior Bill Groben (Chester, Va./Thomas Dale) stopped three shots in a losing effort.
UNCW finished with a 10-2 advantage in shots but just a 4-2 edge in shots on goal. sophomore Tom Fouhy (Buckinghamshire, England/Dr. Challoner's) and freshman Mitchell Jordan (Hanover, Germany) registered shots on goal for the Dukes.
The Dukes dropped to 4-6-1 overall and 0-3-0 in the conference. All six of their losses have come by one goal.
JMU will return to action with a conference game at Hofstra on Wednesday at 7 p.m. It will be the first back-to-back road games for the Dukes this season.
