With baseball season underway, we had the chance to catch-up with former Diamond Dukes who are now playing professionally. The alumni gave advice, talked about what made JMU's program unique and goals for their seasons. Here is what 2010 draft pick Kevin Munson had to say.
What advice would you give to a college baseball player looking to go professional?
Do not worry about the scouts in the stands, play your game, and remember one good or bad game isn't going to make or break your future in pro ball.
How did playing at JMU influence your baseball career?
It gave me experience playing in pressure situations, the college season is much shorter than professionally, so each game means much more. Also, similar to minor league baseball, we drove everywhere, so I learned how to pass the time on the bus.
What made the JMU program unique while you were there?
I believe we were one of the closest groups of friends to ever come through the program.
What is your favorite memory from JMU baseball?
The hilarious moments in the locker room, shout out to Matt Townsend, Alex Foltz, and Turner Phelps for many of those.
What is your favorite memory from professional baseball?
My favorite memory is from when our team won back to back championships in the AA with the Mobile Baybears.
What are your goals for the upcoming professional season?
I want to help whatever team I am on to win a championship.
