HARRISONBURG, Va. – Redshirt-senior defender
Sam Lofton (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) of the James Madison women's soccer team was named to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Women's Soccer All-Star First Team, the conference announced on Thursday.
Â
Starting all 20 games this season, Lofton scored a career-high three goals and tallied seven assists on the way to a 13-point season in 2014. Her total of seven assists was good for second most in the Colonial Athletic Association, one assist behind teammate
Ashley Herndon (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge) for the league lead. Lofton finished her career at JMU with 12 assists, which ties her for 25th on the program's all-time assists chart.
Â
The honor adds to her already-lengthy list of accolades this year, as she was named a First Team All-CAA performer and a Second Team NSCAA All-Mid-Atlantic Region performer while earning CAA All-Academic team honors for her performance in the classroom.
Â
Madison finished the 2014 season 12-8 overall with a 7-2 record in conference action. The Dukes fell just short of a second regular-season title in a row with Northeastern posting a 7-1-1 mark in CAA play to finish 1/2 a game in front of the Dukes. In the CAA Tournament, JMU lost a 4-3 shootout to Hofstra.
