Box Score

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – James Madison women's basketball fell 90-61 at UCLA on Friday night, dropping to 2-1 on the young season while the Bruins improved to 2-0.

JMU jumped on the board first thanks to a jumper by redshirt senior guard Jazmon Gwathmey before the Dukes and Bruins traded buckets through the first minutes of the game. A 10-2 run by UCLA, however, gave the Bruins the lead for good. It marked the first time in the 2015-16 season the Dukes trailed in a game.

The Dukes won the second half, outscoring the Bruins 36-35. They also limited UCLA to 37.5-percent shooting over the last two periods after the Bruins shot 54.8 percent over the first two periods.

Senior guard Ashley Perez led the offensive attack for JMU with 20 points while senior point guard Angela Mickens added 10 points in the contest. Mickens also dished out eight assists to lead all players.

The Dukes return to the JMU Convocation Center to face Liberty on Monday at 7 p.m.
