PISCATAWAY, N.J. – James Madison finished fourth out of ten in the three-day Frank Elm Swimming Invitational on Sunday evening.
Senior
Carli Molano led the Dukes with five top-ten finishes in three individual finals and two relay events. Molano took seventh in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:51.63 and posted back-to-back eighth places finishes in the 50 freestyle (23.95) and the 100 freestyle (51.89).
The team of
Quinn MacMillan, Carli Molano,
Kristen Zielinski and
Camilla Czulada finished second in the 400 Freestyle Relay, breaking the old Frank Elm Invitational record with a time of 3:24.76, just over one second behind first-place finisher and new record-holder Navy.
Claire Adkins and
Maddie Massey recorded the top individual finishes for the Dukes, taking fifth place in the 1650 freestyle (16.59.74) and 400 IM (4:25.30), respectively. Massey carried the momentum into the 500 freestyle, earning seventh (4:58.06).
Sophomore
Katie Parker made her way onto the leaderboards, taking 6th in the 200 IM with a time of 2:06.01.
Senior
Amanda Presgraves closed the day with two top-ten finishes, taking eighth in both the 100 breaststroke (1:04.92) and the 200 breaststroke (2:20.86).
Rounding out the three-day competition, the relay team of
Claire Adkins,
Katie Parker,
Lindsay Bosek and
Kelly Long finished eighth with 7:38.10 in the first 800 freestyle relay of the season.
Quoting Head Coach Dane Pedersen"This morning we did a good job getting second swims for tonight, which allowed us to have a great session tonight. We had a ton of fun tonight swimming fast and just enjoying being together as a team. As always with us, when we laugh a lot and have fun, fast swimming follows."
Record Breaking Performances With a time of 2:24.76, the 400 freestyle relay team of MacMillan, Molano, Zielinski and Czulada broke the standing Frank Elm record of 3:26.08 set in 2014. First-place finisher Navy clocked a 3:23.03 to set a new meet record.
