Dukes Fall 5-2 at Navy

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – James Madison men's tennis suffered a 5-2 setback at Navy on Sunday, picking up wins at No. 2 and No. 6 singles.

Navy (9-1) swept doubles play to take a 1-0 lead over JMU (2-4) before the Mids pushed to a 2-0 lead as Thomas Pecor defeated junior Maxi Branth 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3 singles. Sophomore Miljan Ruzic put the Dukes on the board with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles.

A 6-1, 6-3 loss by sophomore Brett Moorhead at No. 4 singles to Walk Sims gave Navy a 3-1 lead, but junior Robert Stirling pulled the Dukes to within one with a 6-4, 7-6(8) win over Blake Daniel at No. 2 singles. The Mids, however, clinched the match with Calvin Mark's three-set win (6-1, 3-6, 6-4) over sophomore Sebastian Salinas at No. 1 singles.

Freshman Stephen Goldman battled Aries Wong at No. 5 singles to three sets, but was unable to overcome the Midshipman. Wong took a one-set lead with a 6-0 win in set one before Goldman tied the match with a 6-3 victory in set two. In set three, the duo battled to a tiebreaker that went in Wong's favor (7-6 (7-5)).

JMU takes on George Mason next Friday, February 13 in Fairfax, Va., at 6 p.m.
