Dukes Wrap Florida Swing with 6-1 Win over Evansville

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – James Madison women's tennis wrapped up its swing through Florida with another 6-1 win, this time taking care of Evansville at Star Island in Kissimmee, Fla., on Friday.

"Overall, we competed very well today," Head Coach James Bryce said. "We seem to have found a good balance, and I think we are improving each time we play. The week was a good start to our outdoor season, especially moving into our conference matches next week."

A 2-1 showing in doubles for the opening point and a 5-1 showing in singles pushed the Dukes to an overall 8-3 record while the Purple Aces fell to 8-4.

Freshman Kimmy Herrock and sophomore Rebecca Harris rolled Marina Moreno and Kennedy Craig 8-1 at No. 2 doubles to start the day for JMU. An 8-4 win by sophomores Rachel Nelson and Emily Bradshaw at No. 3 doubles over Mina Milovic and Gaby Fifer sealed the point for the Dukes.

Sophomore Alex Huie started singles play with a two-set win (6-0, 6-2) over Moreno at the No. 3 position before freshman Dylan Owens dropped Craig in two sets (6-3, 6-2) at the No. 4 position, pushing the Dukes to a 3-0 lead.

Harris earned match point for JMU, defeating Andjela Brguljan 6-1, 6-3 at No. 6 singles.

Senior Taylor Pinchoff posted her second consecutive come-from-behind victory on Friday, taking down Marketa Trousilova at No. 1 singles. Pinchoff fell 6-2 in set one before rallying for the 6-4 victory in set two. The senior took the tiebreaker 10-5 for the point.

Herrock rounded out the points for JMU with a two-set win at No. 5 singles, overtaking Milovic 6-2, 7-6(6).

JMU returns to league action on March 21 with an 11 a.m. match at Elon. The Dukes won their first Colonial Athletic Association contest of the season, posting a 5-2 victory over Towson in their spring dual opener.
