Parrott Homers Twice in Loss to College of Charleston

Five of JMU's nine hits went for extra bases, but the Cougars racked up 17 hits on the afternoon to drop the Dukes to 10-13 (0-5 CAA) on the season. Charleston improved to 16-7 (5-0 CAA) with the victory.
Parrott's 2-for-4 afternoon at the plate paced the Dukes' offense, as the sophomore racked up a career-high three RBI, a pair of runs and his first career multi-home run game, as well as the first for JMU since Tyler Gregory vs. Towson on April 25, 2014. Parrott now has five home runs and 21 RBI in 2015 to lead the team in both categories.
Freshman center fielder Michael Sciorra and sophomore first baseman Brett Johnson also homered for JMU. Sciorra hit his first career long ball in a 2-for-3 day at the plate that saw him score twice, while Johnson's solo shot in the second inning was his third of the year.
Saturday afternoon marked the first time this season that the Dukes have combined to hit more than two home runs in a single game.
Charleston jumped out to an early lead for the second game in a row, scoring a run in each of the first two innings on a total of five hits, all singles. Then, after Johnson launched a ball over the right field wall in the bottom of the second to cut it to 2-1, Cougar first baseman Nick Pappas answered with a two-run homer of his own to go up 4-1 in the top of the third.
JMU rallied in the bottom of the third, however, scoring three runs on just three hits. Sciorra started things with a one-out, first-pitch single through the left side and junior shortstop Chad Carroll immediately doubled down the left field line to plate the freshman all the way from first, cutting Charleston's lead to 4-2.
After Carroll moved to third on a groundout, Parrott pulled a 1-2 pitch into the bullpen beyond the right field fence and tie things up at 4-4. The Cougars went back on top, 5-4, with a pair of singles in the top of the fourth and neither team would score for the next three innings.
Charleston put the game out of reach with four runs in top of the eighth, using three hits and two walks to take a 9-4 lead. Parrott led off the bottom of the eighth with a solo home run and Sciorra tacked on one of his own in the bottom of the ninth, but a homer from Cougar left fielder Ryan Brown in the top of the ninth had put the cap on the 10-6 decision.
Brandon Glazer earned the win for Charleston, yielding four runs across the five-inning start to move to 5-0, while sophomore right-hander Ford Bradshaw fell to 1-2 in his fourth start of the year. Eric Bauer picked up his first save of the season after throwing the final four innings for the Cougars.
The Dukes will wrap up their three-game series with the Cougars on Sunday afternoon with the first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m. Live video will be available free of charge on MadiZone HD SportsNet presented by the JMU Alumni Association.
