RICHMOND, Va. – The James Madison men's tennis team dropped a 4-0 decision against Richmond in the final match of the regular season on Saturday at the Richmond Tennis Complex.
The Spiders improved to 14-6 in dual matches while the Dukes dropped to 8-10.
UR claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. Richmond's top team of Ethan and Jacob Dunbar downed JMU sophomores
Miljan Ruzic and
Sebastian Salinas by the score of 8-5 while Jonathan Quenard and Caleb Troy bested sophomore
Alex Berdnikoff and junior
Maxi Branth, 8-5 at No. 3 doubles.
The No. 2 doubles match featuring UR's Jacob Aronson and Canyon Teague and sophomore
Brett Moorhead and junior
Robert Stirling of JMU did not finish, with the match squared at 6-6.
The Spiders captured the team win by producing straight-set victories at Nos. 1, 5 and 6 singles.
E. Dunbar took a 6-2, 6-1 win from Salinas at No. 1 singles and Aronson earned a 6-1, 6-4 victory versus Ruzik at No. 5, while Quenard beat Berdnikoff, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6, giving the Spiders the match.
Three other singles matches were not completed once the match was determined. JMU's Branth was up a set on Troy at No. 4 singles, by the score of 6-1, 4-5 while Richmond's J. Dunbar led Stirling at No. 2, 7-5, 3-0 and Teague was up on Moorhead, 6-3, 3-3 at No. 3.
The Dukes turn their attention to the Colonial Athletic Association Championship, which takes place April 17-19 in Williamsburg, Va., on the campus of William & Mary. Seedings for the championship will be determined early next week.
