James Madison coaches and staff unveiled the completed renovations of the football locker room to the players on Friday night at Bridgeforth Stadium.
After more than a year of planning and a week of installations, the state-of-the-art locker room facility consists of new GearBoss custom-made lockers with padded seating, drying fans both in the foot locker and shoulder pad unit, a key pad lock with two outlets and USB ports and purple LED lit panels between each locker. The room also has new carpeting with a Duke Dog logo in the middle, which has a round overhang over top of it, also featuring the Duke Dog and a first-class Bluetooth sound system with concert-style subwoofers.
"This is unbelieveable for the players, for our university and it will help us to do some things in recruiting," Head Coach Everett Withers said. "We thought about how we wanted to make this locker room one of the best in the country and we still feel we're working that way. It's first class and it ought to be very functional for our players but also very nice for our players."
"It's a big selling pitch for JMU, the team and the coaches," redshirt-senior quarterback Vad Lee said. "One of the first things I did when I visited JMU was come to the locker room and try on a No. 2 jersey. We didn't have these nice, new uniforms that we have on today, so it's going to be exciting for the young guys coming in and we'll get a lot more recruits with this locker room."
"Everything we do has a piece of recruiting tied to it," Withers said. "To have this kind of facility that's really nice for them is things that kids today look at when you're recruting them. Facilities are important and we feel it's a great tool for us."
The 12th-ranked Dukes open the 2015 season, presented by CarMax, on Saturday, Sept. 5 when they host Morehead State at 6 p.m. at Bridgeforth Stadium. Tickets packages and single-game tickets are on sale now by visiting the JMU ticket office, located at the JMU Convocation Center, by calling 540-568-3853 or by going online to www.jmutickets.com.
