NEWARK, Del. – Trailing 2-1, James Madison volleyball fought from behind to force a decisive fifth set for the first time this season, but the Dukes fell short to Delaware, 3-2 (25-20, 23-25, 19-25, 25-17, 17-15), inside the Bob Carpenter Center on Sunday.
The Dukes fell to 11-10 overall and 3-5 in Colonial Athletic Association play as the Blue Hens improved to 8-3 and 2-6 in league action.
Senior right side hitter
Janey Goodman tallied a season-best 29 kills on 56 swings for a team-high .446 clip to lead the Duke offense. Goodman also added four digs and five blocks. Sophomore outside hitter
Bryn Recker chipped in 15 kills and 20 digs for her second double-double of the season. Freshman outside hitter
Briley Brind'Amour added 10 kills to become the third Duke attacker to finish in double figures.

Tilbe Yaglioglu dished out a career-high 36 assists, while freshman setter
Sarah Martin added 24 helpers to lead the Dukes to a .255 team clip. Yaglioglu added 10 digs to record her fourth double-double of the season.

Taylor Austin who tallied 33 total, one shy of her career best. Sophomore defensive specialist
Jacqui Koebel added a career-high 19 digs. At the net, the Dukes garnered 10 team blocks led by sophomore
Taylor Gail's six total.
The Blue Hens jumped out early in the first set with a 4-1 lead. The Dukes battled back to take their first lead of the set, 13-12, off a kill from Goodman. Delaware clawed back to locked the set at 19-all before JMU went on a 6-1 run to win the opening stanza, 25-20. Set two featured eight lead changes between UD and the Dukes, the final coming in favor of the Blue Hens. With the matched locked at 23-all, UD landed back-to-back kills to even the match at the break.
Powered by a 5-2 run midway through the third set, Delaware topped the Dukes 25-19 to take a 2-1 lead. The Dukes stormed out in the fourth set, landing 10 of the first 12 points and pulled ahead by as much as 10 over the Blue Hens, ultimately winning the fourth set, 25-17, to force a decisive fifth set for the first time this season.
With the Blue Hens facing match point, 14-13, Goodman hammered home a kill to lock the set up at 14-all. Brind'Amour delivered a kill to put the Dukes ahead 15-14, but the Blue Hens used two blocks and a kill from Daria Robinson to win the set and the match.

Taylor Austin continued her meteoric rise on the JMU all-time digs chart. The Ashburn, Va. native closed the weekend with 1,264 career digs to jump
Katie Daorai (2010-2013) for third place.
Lindsay Collingwood (1996-99) ranks second in JMU history with 1,570 digs, while
Jena Pierson (2004-07) holds the career record with 2,189.

The Dukes racked up 98 digs, the second-highest team total by JMU this season, on the road at Newark, powered by four Dukes finishing in double figures. Junior

Jacqui Koebel rounded out the Duke defensive efforts with 10 and 19 digs, respectively. Koebel set a new career high with her 19 total digs and eclipsed the 100 digs mark for the season with 107 total, well surpassing her previous season-high of 37.
