WILMINGTON, N.C. – Two goals within the first 10 minutes and a sound defensive effort propelled James Madison men's soccer to a 2-0 win over UNCW on Wednesday night at UNCW Soccer Stadium.
JMU has won three games in a row, and four out of their last five contests, to improve to 4-9-3 with a 3-3-2 mark in Colonial Athletic Association play. The Seahawks fell to 7-5-2 on the year and 2-2-2 in the CAA.
Senior midfielder
Callum Hill started the scoring right out of the gate, heading redshirt sophomore forward
Billy Metzler's second-minute corner kick into the back of the net. It was the first goal of the season for Hill, and marked the 11th different JMU player to register a goal this season.
Metzler doubled the JMU lead in the eighth minute. The attacker from Fairfax, Va. sent a cross from freshman forward
Niclas Mohr off the crossbar, then when the rebound fell back to him, hit a volley past UNCW goalkeeper Ryan Cretens.
???????Redshirt senior goalkeeper
Kyle Morton stood tall in goal, making six saves for his fourth shutout of the year. The veteran goalie extended his shutout streak to 242 minutes.
The Seahawks outshot the Dukes 5-2 in the second half, but JMU limited quality scoring opportunities by staying compact and pressing the ball when UNCW had possession in their own half.
