JMU Ranked No.10 in NFCA Poll

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – After a 5-0 weekend, James Madison jumped up nine spots in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Poll, coming in at No.10. This marks the highest ranking in JMU softball's program history.
During the Feb. 19-21 stretch, the Dukes defeated No.12 Tennessee (9-0), DePaul (8-1), Fordham (11-4), No.3 Auburn (3-2) and Oklahoma State (4-1) at the Michele Smith Pediatric Cancer Foundation Invitational in Clearwater, Fla.
JMU was led by senior pitcher Jailyn Ford, who recorded wins against Tennessee and Auburn and a save against OSU, while sophomore Megan Good earned wins against DePaul, Fordham and OSU.
Tabbed the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week, Erica Fields led the Dukes' offense with nine hits in 13 at-bats for a .692 batting average on the weekend. The senior catcher hit three doubles and one triple for 14 total bases. Sophomore Morgan Tolle went 7-for-16 with a .438 batting average, tallying one double and one home run.
As a team, James Madison racked up 35 runs over the five-game span, including nine against Tennessee in a five inning run-rule decision, while holding opponents to eight total runs.
JMU also jumped eight spots in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top-25 poll, coming in at No.12.
Florida remains atop the charts, receiving all 32 first-place votes with an 11-0 record, followed by Michigan, Auburn, Alabama and LSU to round out the top five.
