NEW YORK – James Madison lacrosse senior
Jaci Gordon was recognized amongst the best in the nation Tuesday night as she was named to the Watch List for the 16th annual Tewaaraton Award, presented by Under Armour.
Â
The Tewaaraton Award is presented each year to the top male and female college lacrosse player in the United States. The selection committees are made up of premier collegiate coaches and are appointed every year by The Tewaaraton Foundation.
Â
Gordon is the only Colonial Athletic Association student-athlete to earn a spot on the women's list, which is made up of the top-50 women's lacrosse players in the country.
Â
"It's such an honor for Jaci to be recognized at this level," Head Coach
Shelley Klaes-Bawcombe said. "She will be compared to some of the best players in the game, so I'm excited for her. It's a compliment to Jaci and our program that she is the only player in the conference to make the list."
Â
The Groton, Mass., native was named CAA Preseason Player of the Year and was an
Inside Lacrosse Honorable Mention All-American prior to the 2016 season. In 2015, Gordon was a First Team All-CAA honoree after scoring 62 points on 40 goals and dishing out a team-best 22 assists. She had an 87.3 shot percentage and added 11 ground balls, seven caused turnovers and five draw controls.
Â
Through three games this season, the midfielder has tallied six goals and two assists for eight points.
Â
Players not named to the initial list will have the opportunity to play their way onto it as the season progresses. Additions will be announced on March 17 and April 7. The field will be narrowed to 25 women's nominees on April 28 and the top-five finalists will be revealed on May 12. The 16th annual Tewaaraton Award Ceremony will be held on June 2 in Washington, D.C.
