HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison men's tennis dropped a 7-0 midweek decision to Richmond on Wednesday afternoon, slipping to 7-8 on the year while the Spiders improved to 8-10.
The Spiders won back-to-back doubles matches for the opening point before securing five two-set victories for the team win.
Senior
Maxi Branth was the lone Duke to go a full three sets. Taking on Canyon Teague at No. 3 singles, Branth overcame a 7-5 set-one loss with a 6-4 set-two win to tie the match at 1-all. Both Teague and Branth fought hard in a third-set tiebreak, which Teague won 10-5 to complete the sweep.
Junior
Brett Moorhead battled hard with Alex Felisa at No. 2 singles. Trailing 4-2 in set two, Moorhead won three straight games to take the 5-4 lead. The two traded points before Felisa walked away with match point after a 7-6(8-6) tiebreak.
At No. 5 singles,
Miljan Ruzic fell in two tightly-contested sets (7-5, 7-6(5)) to James Aronson.
JMU returns to Hillside Courts on Saturday, March 26 as the Dukes face Bucknell at 9 a.m.
