HARRISONBURG, Va. – Over the final 30 seconds of play, a trio of Dukes went 6-for-6 from the free throw line to turn a one-point lead for James Madison women's basketball (13-6, 6-2 Colonial Athletic Association) into a 54-47 victory over Drexel (14-5, 5-3 CAA) Friday evening inside the Convocation Center.
Drexel's Sarah Curran netted a three pointer with 1:12 remaining to slice the Dukes' lead to one point before redshirt junior Amber Portergrabbed a key defensive rebound with 28 seconds remaining. Porter, freshman guard Lexie Barrierand redshirt senior guard Precious Hallwent 6-for-6 from the charity stripe over the final 26 seconds to secure the win.
Hall reeled in 17 points for the Dukes for her 19th consecutive double-figure scoring performance. Freshman guard Kamiah Smallsadded 11 points and 10 rebounds for her third career double-double. Sophomore guard Logan Reynoldsadded eight points for JMU, tying her career high.
LOW SCORING
JMU held Drexel to 14 points over the first half, the lowest-scoring half by any JMU opponent this season. The Dukes' 24 first-half points were the second fewest of the season for JMU, second only to their 21 points in the first half at Towson.
FINISHING UP
Drexel's 47 points for the game are the fewest by a JMU foe this season.
CONTINUING THE CLIMB Precious Hall's 17 points pushed her career total to 1,957. She has scored in double figures 19 straight games, tied for the ninth-longest stretch in JMU history with Nadine Morgan, and in 97 games for her career.
HOME SWEET HOME
JMU played in front of 3,082 fans on Friday night, marking 48 straight home games with at least 2,000 in attendance.
UP NEXT
JMU hits the road for the first of three straight road games on Sunday, Jan. 29, traveling to William & Mary for a 2 p.m. showdown. It is the first meeting between the Dukes and Tribe this season. The Dukes' last visit to Williamsburg ended in a 65-59 overtime loss.
