RALEIGH, N.C. - Senior
Matt Cowgill fired a final-round 5-under 67 on Tuesday afternoon, pushing himself into a tie for 10th and leading the way for the James Madison men's golf team as the Dukes closed out the Wolfpack Intercollegiate, hosted by NC State at the par-72, 7,358-yard Lonnie Poole Golf Course.

Cowgill racked up five birdies across a bogey-free round to card his second-lowest round of the young season, launching himself 25 spots up the 81-player leaderboard to secure his first top-10 finish of the year. The senior closed the tournament at 3-under 213, just four strokes off runner-up honors and tied for the lowest 54-hole total of any JMU player this season.

As a team, the Dukes trimmed four strokes off their second-round score with a 3-over 291 on Tuesday, putting them in sole possession of seventh in a tightly-packed 14-team field.

Freshman
Ignacio Montero matched the best score of his short collegiate career with a 1-under 71 on Tuesday, while junior
Shota Ozaki finished in a tie for 36th after a final-round 76. Senior
Jack Floydd (t-43; 224) and junior
Ben Tucker (t-50; 227) closed out the JMU competitors after final rounds of 77 and 78, respectively.

NC State captured the team title on its home course, besting second-place North Carolina by two strokes, while the Wolfpack's Stephen Franken earned medalist honors with a 15-under 201 (66-65-70) on the week.

Matt Cowgill led the way, racking up three birdies and two pars on Tuesday to drop his personal mark to 4-under (2.73), tied for second-lowest of any competitor for the week.
