HARRISONBURG, Va. – Highlighted by five non-conference tournaments, seven games against teams that competed in the 2017 NCAA Tournament and a 15-game home-slate, the 2018 James Madison softball schedule is set, Head Coach
Loren LaPorte announced Tuesday.
"The 2018 season is going to be an exciting challenge for our team," LaPorte said. "We lead off in Puerto Vallarta Mexico and spend our spring break in Hawaii where we will play four opponents that made the 2017 NCAA Tournament. We also have a few mid-week rivalry games against Virginia, Virginia Tech, North Carolina and Marshall. As always, our weekends in the spring will bring tough, competitive conference matchups."
JMU opens the season on Feb. 9-11 in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico for the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge. The Dukes will face Nevada in the season opener before taking on Long Beach State and 2017 Conference USA champion Louisiana Tech. The following weekend, the Dukes travel to Buies Creek, N.C., to face Campbell in a doubleheader.
The Dukes close out February with the Green and Gold Classic, hosted by Jacksonville University on Feb. 24-25. JMU will face UCF to open the tournament before taking on the host Dolphins along with Penn State and Western Carolina.
James Madison is slated to spend its spring break in Hawaii, competing in two tournaments over the week. The Dukes will face familiar foes in East Carolina and Longwood during the Malihini Kipa Aloha Tournament along with California, UTEP and host Hawaii. In the latter tournament of the week, the Dukes will again face the Pirates, Lancers and Rainbow Warriors, adding two games against BYU and one matchup against Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
The Dukes open their home slate on March 16-18 with the JMU Invitational as the Dukes welcome Stony Brook, Ohio and East Carolina to Veterans Memorial Park.
James Madison will host three CAA series as Towson (March 24-25), Delaware (April 7-8) and Hofstra (April 28-29) come to town to battle the defending CAA champions. JMU will also host North Carolina in its final non-conference contest on April 11.
