Dukes Tripped Up in 62-53 Loss to William & Mary

HARRISONBURG, Va. – Despite erasing its halftime deficit, James Madison was outscored 19-10 over the final 10 minutes to fall 62-53 against William & Mary in Colonial Athletic Association women's basketball on Sunday afternoon at the JMU Convocation Center.

The Tribe improved to 18-10 overall and 8-9 in CAA play while the Dukes fell to 21-7 and 14-3. This was JMU's largest defeat to a conference opponent since a 50-34 setback against Drexel in the 2013 CAA semifinals. The loss also snapped a nine-game win streak for the Dukes.

Redshirt junior forward Amber Porter turned in her sixth straight double-digit scoring performance with a team-high 13 points. She also produced seven rebounds, two steals and two blocks. Redshirt senior guard Precious Hall recorded her third career double-double with 12 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Hall and sophomore guard Logan Reynolds each had three steals.

The Dukes shot just 35 percent (23-65) for the game, as opposed to the Tribe's 42 percent (23-55). JMU was out-rebounded 40-38 but held a slim 17-15 advantage on the offensive glass, resulting in 23 second-chance points for the Dukes.

W&M had three players score in double figures, led by Marlena Tremba, who had 16 points and nine rebounds. Alexandra Masaquel chipped in 15 points, six rebounds and a game-high four steals, while Jenna Green added 12 points.

COLD FIRST HALF
JMU trailed at the half for the first time since Jan. 20 at Elon (32-29). This marked just the sixth time overall the Dukes trailed after the first two quarters this season.

SERIES NOTES

This is the second straight season JMU has lost a game to William & Mary.
This is the first time JMU fell to William & Mary at home since Feb. 12, 1999 (55-53).

Precious Hall pushed her double-digit scoring streak to 28 games, tied for the second-longest streak in JMU history with Tamera Young's and Toia Giggetts career marks. She pushed her career point total to 2,156.

NO MAN'S LAND
The Dukes went 0-for-19 from 3-point land on Sunday. This is the first time since Nov. 24, 2012 that JMU failed to sink a 3-pointer since Nov. 24, 2012 against Wichita State.

Today's loss dropped JMU into second place in the CAA standings. Elon sits in first with one game left in the regular season.

HOME SWEET HOME
JMU played in front of a crowd of 2,985 fans, the Dukes' 51st straight home game in front of at least 2,000 at the Convo.
