NORFOLK, Va. – James Madison baseball held three separate leads, but fell to Old Dominion 9-8 at the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex on Tuesday afternoon. The Dukes fell to 8-3 on the season, while the Monarchs won their third game in a row to improve to 9-2.

Redshirt senior first baseman Brett Johnson led JMU at the plate, going 3-for-5 with a solo home run in the third inning to put the Dukes ahead 4-3. JMU would extend its lead to 6-3 in the inning with a Brad McKay RBI double and a Ryan Coale RBI groundout.

McKay had a 2-for-4 day and a team-high three RBIs, including a two-run home run in the fifth to put the Dukes up 8-7, his first homer of the season. The Monarchs would respond with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the frame to tie the game, then a Nick Walker home run to put them up 9-8 for good.

JMU had initially taken a 2-0 lead to start the game in the first inning after a Johnson RBI single and a Josh Wyatt sacrifice fly. Wyatt was 2-for-5 on the day with two runs scored.

Culver Lamb (1-0) earned the win for ODU after two and one thirds scoreless innings of relief. Sophomore Matt Marsili (0-1) took the loss for the Dukes. The Monarchs' Craig Lopez picked up a save.
