ELON, N.C. – James Madison women's tennis surrendered a 5-2 decision at Elon on Saturday afternoon, closing out the Colonial Athletic Association portion of the Dukes' regular season.
JMU (15-7, 3-3 CAA) was swept in doubles action by Elon (17-7, 4-1 CAA) before the Phoenix won four of six singles matches, including the first three finished, to take the team victory.
Senior Timea Guibeearned her eighth consecutive dual win at the top singles position as she went the distance against Erica Braschi. Battling for the 7-6(2) win in set one, Guibe then dropped the second set 6-4 to send it to a third-set tiebreaker. After trailing 6-2, Guibe won the tiebreak 10-8 to secure the point.
Senior Rebecca Harris earned her 10th singles victory of the spring with a two-set (6-1, 6-4) win over Alex Koniaev at the No. 6 position.
UP NEXT
JMU closes out the regular season on Sunday, April 16 at Old Dominion in a noon match. The Dukes head back to Elon next week for the CAA Championships, held April 20-23.
