James Madison Athletics celebrated a year of achievement by its sport programs with the JMA (James Madison Athletics) Awards on Monday night Wilson Hall. Previously an awards banquet, the event has been expanded this year to feel more like an elite awards show while also adding numerous new honors to recognize more student-athletes. The evening included highlight reels, memorable moments, achievement recognition and a few surprises.

Unseen Hero Award –
Dr. Kent Diduch (Integrated Health & Sports Performance) - Recognizing the efforts of a JMU Athletics staff member who works outside of the public spotlight

Duke Club Award – Softball - The team that best embraces the mission of the Duke Club and helps with the group's many requests for student-athlete assistance
Â
Community Service Award – Softball - Given to a team that best exemplifies service to others and helping those in need in our community
Unsung Hero Award – Meghan Malloy (Cross Country/Track & Field) - Awarded to a model student-athlete, who contributes extensively to a team's success without receiving acclaim for their achievements

Comeback Award – Precious Hall (Women's Basketball) - Bestowed upon a student-athlete who overcame significant adversity to achieve success
Â
Courage Award – Ellie Harmeyer (Lacrosse) - Awarded to a student-athlete who overcame a significant adversity or hardship to excel in competition
Breakthrough Performance Award – Khalid Abdullah (Football) - Recognizing a student-athlete who emerged as a starter or key contributor or who performed during a season or game at a level exceeding previous expectations of that individual

Record-Breaking Performance Award – Amber Monroe (Track & Field) - Awarded to an individual or team whose performance established a new record for JMU, the CAA or the NCAA

Best Upset Award – Football at North Dakota State - Recognizing a team that overcame the odds or adversity to achieve victory

Best Highlight Reel Moment Award – Jessica Mrozek (Softball) game-winning hit vs. LSU - The best single defining moment or highlight play of the year

Best Postseason Performance by an Individual Award – Ryan Cole (Men's Golf) - Given to the student-athlete who excelled in a single postseason game or event or over the course of a postseason tournament

Best Postseason Performance by a Team – Football - Awarded to a team that achieved at a significantly high level over the course of postseason competition

Male & Female Rookie of the Year – Presented to student-athletes making a significant impact in their first season of collegiate competition
