LOUISVILLE, Ky. – James Madison softball junior pitcher/utility player Megan Good's record-shattering season continues as she was honored as the Schutt Sports/National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division I National Player of the Year, the organization announced Thursday.
Good is just the second recipient of the award, which is voted on by members of the NFCA's Division I All-American and Coaching Staff of the Year committee. She joins the ranks of four-time NFCA All-American and Michigan standout Sierra Romero, the inaugural winner of the honor. Good is the first student-athlete in JMU softball's program history to receive a national player of the year recognition.
"It's very humbling," Good said of the honor. "There are so many student-athletes across the country and in our conference that I have competed against. They are all great athletes, so it's an honor to receive the award. I could not have done it without my teammates and coaching staff being there for me throughout these three years."

The right-handed pitcher leads the nation in victories with a 38-3 record in the circle with a nation-best 14 shutouts, both of which are JMU single-season records. She ranks third nationally with a 0.63 ERA, which is a JMU single-season low.
Dangerous on both sides of the ball, Good led JMU with a .383 average at the plate with a career-high 69 hits. She headed the Colonial Athletic Association with 58 RBIs, the third-most over a single season in JMU history. She closed the season with 19 multi-hit outings and led the team with 17 multi-RBI games, including two five-RBI outings. She knocked 11 doubles and a team-leading 12 home runs for a .644 slugging percentage, the second-best mark in the conference. Aided by 28 walks, she closed the season with a .464 on-base percentage.
"It's a great honor for our program," Head Coach Mickey Deansaid. "Our team puts in a lot of hard work and effort, so to have one of our players selected as the nation's best because of her efforts and competitiveness is a tremendous honor."
Good is the second JMU student-athlete to earn a national player of the year honor over the 2016-17 athletic season, joining JMU's football's Bryan Schor.
