10/17/2018 10:50:00 PM | Men's Soccer
HARRISONBURG, Va. - James Madison men's soccer earned its eighth shutout of the season after blanking Navy 1-0 on Wednesday night at Sentara Park. The Dukes improve to 9-3-2 overall (6-1 in CAA) while the Midshipmen fall to 1-11-1.
Freshman Melker Anshelm, the Colonial Athletic Association Men's Soccer Rookie of the Week, notched the game-winning goal for the Dukes which was also the first of his career.
HOW THEY SCORED
14' | Junior Manuel Ferriol served a front-post ball on the corner kick and Anshelm finished with a header in the goalkeeper's crease.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
JMU outshot Navy 11-6, taking only two shots on goal. The Dukes earned 12 corner kicks in the match, marking the most since they took 18 against Northeastern on September 22. Redshirt sophomore TJ Bush tallied one save on the night, improving his season total to 38 while grabbing his eighth shutout of the season.
QUOTING HEAD COACH PAUL ZAZENSKI
"Simply put, this was not our best performance. Credit to Navy who played well, but our early goal was just enough to get us the win. I'm glad we could keep another shutout, but we didn't have everything clicking tonight and we have to be better down the stretch. It was good that we could find a way to win when we were not at our best."
UP NEXT
The Dukes will host the Penn State Nittany Lions on Saturday, October 20 at Sentara Park. The match is slated for a 7 p.m. start and will be available to watch on MadiZONE.
