HARRISONBURG, Va. – Following its first home loss since 2015, James Madison fell four spots to a tie for sixth in the latest STATS FCS Top 25 while also dipping to eighth in the AFCA Coaches' Top 25.
The Dukes (4-2, 2-1 CAA) dropped a 27-24 decision on Saturday to Elon, which rose to fifth in the media poll and sixth by the coaches.
The Phoenix scored with 1:17 left to take the lead and forced an interception to seal the game. It ended JMU's 19-game home win streak and a 20-game win streak in Colonial Athletic Association play.
Ben DiNucci was 24-of-41 for a career-high 316 yards and a touchdown. Riley Stapleton made seven receptions for 99 yards and a touchdown, and Kyndel Dean set career highs for the second straight week, with six catches for 96 yards. Ethan Ratke set the program record for most field goals in a single game, with four.
North Dakota State was the unanimous No. 1 team in both polls this week, reeling in all 160 first-place votes from the media and all 26 from the coaches. South Dakota State is No. 2 in the media poll, followed by Kennesaw State, Eastern Washington and Elon to round out the top five. On the coaches' side, KSU was No. 2, EWU was No. 3, Wofford was No. 4 and SDSU was No. 5.
In the CAA, a total of seven teams are ranked this week. Behind Elon and JMU are Rhode Island (16/15), Towson (17/18), Stony Brook (20/20), Maine (21/22) and Villanova (RV/25).
No. 6 JMU hits the road this Saturday, Oct. 13 to take on Villanova. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Villanova Stadium and the game will be televised on FOX College Sports and can be streamed on FOX Sports Go or through CAA.TV for Comcast/Xfinity customers.
