HARRISONBURG, Va. - The James Madison men's golf team has signed
Neal Shipley to a National Letter of Intent to join the Dukes for the 2019-20 season, as announced by Head Coach
Jeff Forbes on Wednesday afternoon.
Â
"We're looking forward to Neal joining the JMU men's golf family," Forbes said. "Neal is a good student and can contribute to our team immediately next season. His experience in both amateur and professional events around the northeast will be a big plus when he arrives on campus."
Â
Shipley has starred at Pittsburgh Central Catholic High School, helping lead the Vikings to the first two state championships in program history, including posting the low round of this year's PIAA State Championship.
Â
This past summer, Shipley placed third at the Western Pennsylvania Junior Championship and was an alternate for both the US Open Sectionals and US Amateur. He placed inside the top 15 at a pair of American Junior Golf Association tournaments, including an eighth-place finish at the AJGA Coca-Cola Junior Championship.
Â
As a junior in 2017, he took home fifth place at the PIAA Individual Championship, firing a tournament-low 68 along the way, after capturing medalist honors at the International Junior Golf Tour Spring Kickoff at White Manor Country Club.
Â
The Dukes have completed the fall portion of their 2018-19 season, having finished inside the top five in all four of their completed tournaments. JMU will be back in action when its travels to Banyan Creek Golf Club in Palm City, Fla. to take part in the UNCG Banyan Creek Collegiate on Feb. 10-12, 2019.
