HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison's stock rose in both major FCS polls this week, closing the regular season ranked No. 6 in the STATS FCS Top 25 and the AFCA FCS Coaches' Top 25.
The Dukes (8-3, 6-2 CAA) are coming off a 38-17 triumph at then-No. 15 Towson on Saturday to finish alone in second place in the Colonial Athletic Association standings.
JMU rushed for a season-high 395 yards and shut down Towson's offense for most of the final three quarters to run away with the win. Cardon Johnson was named CAA Offensive Player of the Week after rushing for 162 yards and a touchdown on just 13 carries, averaging 12.5 per attempt.
The Dukes produced three 100-yard rushers in the same game for just the third time in program history, as Trai Sharp ran for 107 yards and a score, while Ben DiNucci turned in his first 100-yard game with 104 yards and a career-best three rushing scores.
North Dakota State, which earned the top seed for the FCS Playoffs, remained atop both polls, earning all first-place votes from the media and coaches. In the STATS media poll, Kennesaw State was second, followed by Weber State, Eastern Washington and South Dakota State. On the Coaches' side, NDSU was No. 1 and KSU was No. 2, followed by No. 3 EWU, No. 4 Weber and No. 5 SDSU.
In the CAA, all six playoff-bound teams were ranked to end the regular season. Behind JMU are Maine (12/14), Stony Brook (15/16), Towson (16/19), Elon (17/17) and Delaware (21/23).
Sixth-ranked JMU opens postseason play on Saturday, Nov. 24 when it hosts No. 21 Delaware in the first round of the 2018 NCAA FCS Playoffs.
