CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Wins in four of six singles matches against four-time defending Colonial Athletic Association women's tennis champion William & Mary highlighted James Madison women's tennis final day at the Kitty Harrison Invitational.
The matchup was the first for the Commonwealth rivals since last spring's CAA Championship match.
A quick straight-set victory from senior
Emma Petersen over Mila Saric (6-4, 6-2) began the day for the Dukes.
Sophomore
Jona Roka kept the momentum going following a straight-set triumph of her own as she pushed past Vitoria Okuyama 7-5, 6-4.
After dropping the first set, senior
Abby Amos used a 10-6 third-set super-tiebreak victory to complete her come-from-behind victory over the reigning CAA player of the year Rosie Cheng 3-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-6).
Junior
Diane Flament closed the afternoon and the de facto singles victory for JMU after she battled past Charlotte Madson(5-7, 6-2, 1-0 (10-8)), following a third-set super-tiebreak victory of her own.
Freshman
Daniela Voloh had her comeback bid fall just short as she lost a three-set thriller to Lauren Goodman 2-6, 6-2, 1-0 (11-9).
