RICHMOND, Va. - James Madison sophomore Odicci Alexander and freshman Payton Buresch respectively are the Colonial Athletic Association's softball Player and Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league on Monday afternoon.Â
Alexander had a near-perfect weekend at plate, batting .800 (8-for-10) with one walk, five RBI, and two home runs in helping JMU sweep Towson to start league play unbeaten at 3-0. The sophomore made all of her at-bats count during Saturday's doubleheader with a 7-for-7 effort at the plate, tallying two of the five Dukes' home runs (and four RBI) in a pair victories. Alexander, who also picked up her 11th win in the circle in game two on Saturday, opened the scoring in that contest with a two-run blast. In game one, the righty smacked another two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth as part of a 9-0 win. She finished the weekend with an RBI-single in Sunday's 5-4 triumph. So far this spring, Alexander leads the conference in RBI (34), home runs (9), and is tied for the league lead with teammate Buresch for wins in the circle with 11.Â
Another impressive all-around weekend brought another weekly honor for Buresch, who now owns five CAA weekly awards and four Rookie of the Week honors. The righty improved to 11-4 overall, tossing 12.3 innings and giving up just one earned run on four walks and 10 strikeouts for a 0.54 ERA. Buresch started JMU's series opener versus Towson and recorded her sixth complete game of the season with five strikeouts, zero runs, and two walks. She appeared in relief in each of the next two contests, totaling 6.3 frames of work and allowing just one run with five more strikeouts.Â
