LOUISVILLE, Ky. – James Madison softball's sophomore pitcher/utility player
Odicci Alexander and sophomore outfielder
Kate Gordon each earned a selection to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association's All-America third team, the organization announced Wednesday.
Â
Garnering spots on the NFCA All-Northeast Region first team earlier this season, Alexander and Gordon both received the first All-America honors of their careers. Both Dukes were most recently named to the All-Eastern College Athletic Conference first team.
Â
A threat from the mound and at the plate, Alexander was named the 2018 Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year. Pitching 225 1/3 innings of work on the season, Alexander tallied a 25-8 record with a 2.27 ERA. She has tossed eight shutouts while striking out 216 and only allowing 47 walks this season. Behind the dish, the Boydton, Va. product tallied a .374 average over 55 starts with 65 hits, including eight doubles and 16 bombs. She accumulated 43 runs and led JMU with 56 RBIs.Â
Â
A force behind the plate, Gordon averaged .400. She knocked 72 hits, ranking 14th nationally with a team-leading 19 doubles and registering 14 long balls. The first-team All-CAA selection tallied 50 RBI while scoring 48 runs. Earlier this season, Gordon broke the single-game RBI record by notching six in the 11-3 victory over UNCW. The Shenandoah, Va. native boasts two CAA Player of the Week awards in 2018 – one coming after adding three doubles in the 13-1 victory over Delaware and the other coming after Gordon notched five runs on five hits and four RBI in the series sweep of then-No. 24 Hofstra.
Â
Making the program's sixth consecutive NCAA Regional appearance in Knoxville, the Dukes closed the season with a 43-14 overall record.
