HARRISONBURG, Va. -
Jess Jarrett has been promoted to Director of Facilities and Events, as announced by Director of AthleticsÂ
Jeff Bourne on Wednesday afternoon.
Â
"We are pleased to be able to recognize Jess' performance with this promotion," Bourne said. "He has exhibited a tireless work ethic and dedication to his craft over the last few years. He quietly yet purposely pursues his work for the betterment of JMU Athletics. We look forward to his continued steady work in this new role."Â
Â
As director, Jarrett's duties will expand to overseeing operations at all athletic facilities and coordinating with facilities management on renovations and maintenance. He will serve in a secondary role as football game day manager, manage all planning and logistics of events and directing the scheduling of all athletic facilities for events.Â
Â
"Jess has been an important piece of the success we have experienced in facilities and events over the last few years," Assistant A.D. for Facilities & Events
Ty Phillips said. "He is a complete team player that models the type of performance you want from any employee and does it with humility and compassion for our student-athletes and coaches. He is constantly looking for ways to be more efficient and I am excited to see Jess take on these new duties."
Â
Since 2016, Jarrett has served as the west campus athletic facilities manager at JMU, overseeing day-to-day operations within Bridgeforth Stadium, Plecker Athletic Performance Center, Godwin Hall, Memorial Gymnasium and Veterans Memorial Park.
Â
"I want to thank Ty and our athletics administration for this exciting growth opportunity and for giving me the ability to continue serving my alma mater," Jarrett said. "As I take on a greater role leading our facilities and events department, I look forward to maintaining the great working relationships I have developed over the last five years at JMU and the new ones I will make campus-wide."
Â
Jarrett graduated from JMU in 2010 with a bachelor's degree in sport and recreation management and a minor in general business. While completing his degree, he spent the summer of 2009 working as the head groundskeeper of Hooker Field at the Martinsville Department of Parks and Recreation.Â
Â
In 2013, Jarrett returned to JMU as an athletic facilities coordinator, working closely with facilities management to oversee Bridgeforth Stadium, the APC and football practice facilities.
