QUOTING COACH WALTERS
"This was a tough one, but we walk away from this match with plenty of valuable things to work on, as well as a lot of positives to take into Sunday's match. We need to learn how to close out a match with a late lead, but I felt like we were able to find moments of quality play at times. I feel for the girls after this one; they put in a fantastic preseason workload and I wanted them to pick up this win and reap the benefits of that work!"
SPOT UP
Junior Lizzy Lazzaro scored the fifth goal of her career in Thursday's loss, with all five coming from spot kicks. Three of her four goals in 2017 came from free kicks from outside the penalty box, while she also buried a penalty kick last year as a sophomore.
Â
UP NEXT
The Dukes will be back in action on Sunday, August 19 to close out the Fairfield Inn by Marriott JMU Invitational with a 2 p.m. matchup against Maryland. The Terrapins bested William & Mary in a 2-1 victory on Thursday afternoon.
