HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison opens conference play this weekend holding a No. 2 ranking in both the STATS FCS Top 25 and the AFCA FCS Coaches' Top 25.
It's the fourth straight week the Dukes (2-1) held the second position. Additionally, they received two first-place votes in the STATS media poll this week.
JMU is coming off a 73-7 victory in its home opener last Thursday against Robert Morris. It was the fifth-largest win in school history and the fourth time under Head Coach Mike Houston that the team scored over 70 points in a game.
Redshirt junior Ben DiNucci registered a career-high five touchdowns, throwing for three and rushing for two more – both of which were also career highs. Redshirt senior Jimmy Moreland set a JMU all-time record in the win, tallying his 15th career interception on a 20-yard pick-six.
JMU had five different players score a rushing touchdown and eight total players finding the end zone through the pass or run game. JMU's three quarterbacks completed 20 passes to 11 different receivers.
North Dakota State remains atop the polls after reeling in 152 first-place votes from the media and all 26 by the coaches. Following JMU in both polls are South Dakota State, North Carolina A&T (3 1st-place votes in media) and Kennesaw State.
The CAA once again boasts six teams in the top 25 this week. Behind the Dukes are Elon (12/12), Maine (13/14), Villanova (15/14), Stony Brook (20/19) and Rhode Island (23/23).
JMU opens its conference slate on Saturday, Sept. 22 when it hosts William & Mary (1-1). Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. on NBC Sports Washington Plus. The 2018 season is sponsored by CarMax and Saturday's contest is presented by Sprint.
