Dukes Defeat Huskies 1-0 in CAA Home Opener

HARRISONBURG, Va. - James Madison picked up its third consecutive win on Saturday night, defeating Northeastern 1-0 in a late-night match at Sentara Park. The Dukes improve to 4-2-1 overall and 2-0 in Colonial Athletic Association action, while the Huskies fall to 2-5 and 0-1.
After a slow start in the first half, the Dukes played aggressive in the final 45 minutes, firing eight shots and attempting 13 corner kicks.
HOW THEY SCORED
71'| Junior Brandon Clegg notched the game-winning goal, taking a shot inside the right post off a corner from graduate student Yannick Franz. The game winner was Clegg's first goal of the season.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
JMU took a season-high 18 corners, limiting Northeastern to three. The Dukes outshot the Huskies 12-2, taking six shots on goal which resulted in five saves for Noah Abrams. Franz led JMU with four shots followed by junior Niclas Mohr who took three.

"We had a slow start in the first half tonight, but we responded well in the second. I thought we had much more purpose and composure which got us the result. It's nice to get off to a good start in conference play, but we have to quickly turn our attention to Delaware who is coming to town on Wednesday."

The Dukes return to the pitch on Wednesday, Sept. 26 as they welcome Delaware to Sentara Park. Delaware travels to Harrisonburg holding a 2-5 record, coming off a 2-1 overtime victory against the College of Charleston. The match is slated for a 7 p.m. start.
