HARRISONBURG, Va. –For the fifth week running, James Madison is ranked second nationally in both the STATS FCS Top 25 and the AFCA FCS Coaches' Top 25.
The Dukes (3-1, 1-0 CAA) received three first-place votes by the media this week after rolling to a 51-0 win against William & Mary in the conference opener last Saturday. It was the largest margin of victory in the history of the series and the first time JMU shut out W&M.
Redshirt senior Jimmy Moreland was named Colonial Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Week after tallying five tackles, a tackle for loss, a pass breakup and a 56-yard interception for a touchdown. JMU limited the Tribe to only 132 yards and forced four turnovers in the win. The Dukes out-gained W&M 444-132, including a 247-55 advantage in the run game.
North Dakota State remains atop the polls after reeling in 152 first-place votes from the media and all 26 by the coaches. Following JMU in both polls are South Dakota State, Kennesaw State and Eastern Washington to round out the top five.
The CAA led the country with seven teams in the top 25 this week. Behind the Dukes are Elon (11/9), Villanova (t-13/14), Maine (16/16), Stony Brook (18/17), Rhode Island (22/20) and Towson (25/RV).
JMU hits the road for the capital city on Saturday, Sept. 29 when it faces in-state rival Richmond. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. at Robins Stadium and will be televised regionally NBC Sports Washington Plus, NBC Sports Philadelphia Plus, NBC Sports Chicago Plus and SportsNet New York. It is also the CAA's Game of the Week on CBSi's College Sports Live and can be streamed free of charge.
