BLACKSBURG, Va. – James Madison women's tennis fell 7-0 to the Virginia Tech Hokies on Sunday afternoon at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
The Hokies started quickly, with a sweep of doubles play that gave them a 1-0 lead heading into singles action.
In singles play, the Hokies kept the momentum going with straight set victories at No's. 5 and 6. The final four matches of singles competition were three-set affairs.
Virginia Tech clinched match point at 4-0 after Smantha Gillas defeated junior
Jona Roka 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3.
After dropping the first set 7-5 and down a break at 5-4 in the second, freshman
Daria Afanasyeva battled back to win the final three games to knot the match at a set apiece. Afanasyeva ultimately fell 7-5, 5-7, 6-3 to Virginia Tech's Natalie Novotna at No. 1.
Victories at No's. 2 and 4 singles play completed the seven point sweep for the Hokies.

The Dukes will head to Huntington, WV. to take on Marshall and UNC-Charlotte next Friday and Saturday afternoon.
