RICHMOND, Va. – On Monday the Colonial Athletic Association named freshman third basemen
Trevon Dabney Player of the Week for his performance this past weekend. The Dukes swept the Spartans of Norfolk State behind Dabney's 6-for-11 weekend. The Dukes are back in action this afternoon against Longwood and this weekend against Lafayette.
Player of the Week: Trevon Dabney, Fr., 3B, James Madison – Dabney batted .545 (6-for-11) with four doubles, four runs scored and a league-best seven RBI's in JMU's three-game sweep of Norfolk State. The freshman third baseman drove in at least one run in all three contests, including a four-RBI effort in the middle game. He also stole two bases and scored the game-winning run in the Dukes' 6-5 victory on Saturday that completed the series sweep.
Pitcher of the Week: George Kirby, Jr., P, Elon – Kirby allowed just two hits over 6.2 innings and struck out 10 with no walks in Elon's 8-0 shutout of Lafayette last Saturday. The junior right-hander recorded double-digit strikeouts for the fifth time in his career with at least one in each of the first six frames. He didn't allow a runner to get past second base in the contest in picking up his first win of the season.
Rookie of the Week: Tristan Snyder, Fr., P, William & Mary – Snyder gave up just three hits over 4.2 shutout innings and struck out six to earn the win in William & Mary's 8-3 triumph over Marist last Friday. The Tribe led just 4-3 when he entered the game in the fifth. Snyder surrendered only one single and fanned five over the final three frames.
