COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – USA Volleyball has announced its 28-player U.S. Women's Collegiate National Team – Anaheim roster and James Madison volleyball's
M'Kaela White has earned a position on the team, as announced by USA Volleyball on Monday afternoon.Â
Â
"Getting the opportunity to wear USA on my back is a huge honor," said White. "There have been many that have come before me and many that will come after me, but I am so honored to be able to represent JMU while playing with some of the best in the country."
Â
White was one of eight middles blockers selected for the squad. The Maryland native led the Dukes in 2018 with 172 blocks. She had 17 matches with double-digit kills and three matches with double-digit blocks.Â
Â
"M'Kaela has worked very hard to put herself in this position to be able to compete in a USA jersey," Head Coach
Lauren Steinbrecher said. "What's most exciting is that she's just starting to reach her potential! I could not be prouder of her and I am thrilled that she will be able to represent JMU this summer."Â
Â
After a stellar 2018 campaign, White received multiple accolades: American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-American, AVCA East Coast All-Region Team, VaSID Player of the Year, First Team VaSID, CAA All-Tournament Team and First Team All-CAA.Â
Â
The team will train June 23-29 at the American Sports Centers in Anaheim which is the official host city for the U.S. women's and men's national teams. There will be a scrimmage held on June 28 that is open for the public. A site and time will be announced at a later time.
Â
White and the 27 other student-athletes were selected through open tryouts held March 1-3 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.Â
