HARRISONBURG, Va. -
Scott Measell has been promoted to Director of Event Management, as announced by James Madison Director of Athletics
Jeff Bourne on Monday afternoon.
Â
In his new position, Measell will oversee JMU Athletics' entire event staff through training, hiring, recruitment and more, while serving as the game manager for multiple sports. These duties include liaising with on-campus departments, such as parking services, public safety and facilities management, while coordinating the scheduling and execution of all events and activities held in athletic facilities.
Â
"I am thrilled that Scott has earned this opportunity leading our event operations at JMU," Assistant A.D. for Facilities and Events
Ty Phillips said. "I've watched Scott's growth in this profession over the last few years and I've seen him develop the skills, experience and intangibles that will allow him to continue to strengthen our event management and game operations. It makes me especially proud to have seen Scott grow from a high school senior working with us after school to a young man fully capable of leading this already-strong department."
Â
Since joining JMU Athletics this past August, Measell has served as the Assistant Director of Events, acting as the game manager for men's basketball, women's soccer and lacrosse and overseeing operations for several other sports' home events. In addition to a multitude of other duties, he acted as the Host Championship Director for both the men's and women's soccer CAA Tournament, while leading and training event management staff and students.
Â
"I would like to thank Jess Jarrett, Ty Phillips and
Jeff Bourne for giving me this opportunity," Measell said. "I am grateful for the confidence and trust that they have placed in me over the past year, allowing me to grow both personally and professionally. We have made great strides in the Athletic Facilities and Events Office, and I'm excited to continue our progress. I feel honored to play a part in such a hardworking, productive and successful athletic department like JMU!"
Â
Prior to James Madison, Measell was on staff at American, overseeing event operations for field hockey, wrestling and lacrosse during his time as an Operations Manager. He also worked in event management at both Wake Forest and Winthrop after his undergraduate studies, coordinating events and games across a spectrum of sports.
Â
Measell, a Harrisonburg native, graduated from Radford in 2015, serving as a facilities & operations intern for more than two years as he earned his bachelor's degree in Sport Administration with a minor in Management, earning Dean's List honors on two occasions.
