HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison baseball head coach Marlin Ikenberry announced the signing class of 2025 on Tuesday, with eleven players signing their National Letters of Intent to play for the Dukes.
Â
"We are very excited about this class," said Ikenberry. "These future Dukes are not only great baseball players, but men of character and integrity that we want in this program. They all possess a relentless work ethic to be the best at everything they do."
Â
The class consists of five players from Virginia, four from Maryland, and two from West Virginia.
Â
Tyler Muscar | LHP | 6-4 | 195 | Centreville, Va. | Westfield High School
Â
Thoughts on Muscar: "Tyler is an athletic left-handed pitcher who is in the mid to upper 80's. He shows great pitch ability and a tremendous work ethic. Tyler has pitched for one of the top high school and summer programs in northern Virginia and has just scratched the surface with his potential. Tyler has JMU roots with his mother being a graduate of JMU."
Â
Jason Schiavone | C/UT | 6-2 | 195 | Laytonsville, Md. | St. John's College High School
Â
Thoughts on Schiavone: "Jason is a catcher and infielder that possesses a tremendous skill set. He has a plus arm and advanced catching skills, which aided in his high school winning the WCAC Championship last year. Jason has shown the ability to play the left side of the infield throughout his career. He has the bat speed and swing to produce at this level."
Â
Ryan Cook | RHP | 6-1 | 175 | Mount Sidney, Va. | Fort Defiance High School
Â
Thoughts on Cook: "Ryan is an athletic right-handed pitcher. He is a multi-sport athlete in high school, earning First Team and Second Team All-District honors in both basketball and baseball, respectively. Ryan pitches with his fastball to both sides of the plate with a plus slider, and his fastball sits in the upper 80's consistently. Ryan's father is a former JMU baseball great and his mother was a lacrosse player here at JMU as well."Â
Â
Bryce Suters | OF | 6-0 | 200 | Broadway, Va. | Broadway High School
Â
Thoughts on Suters: "Bryce is a local product that can really hit. Along with his advanced hitting ability, he is big, strong, fast and will play multiple positions for us. It is always important for us to try and keep the best local players in the valley, as Bryce has shown earning First Team All-Valley District and All-Region 3C honors. Along with Ryan, we feel like we did that with Bryce.Â
Â
Matt Leikus | RHP | 6-2 | 215 | Lutherville-Timonium, Md. | The Gilman School
Â
Thoughts on Leikus: "Matt is a big strong right-handed pitcher who is consistently in the upper 80's. He has advanced secondary stuff and the potential to be a big-time power pitcher for us. Matt is an extremely hard worker with tremendous character, and it has paid off so far for him as he has earned All-Conference honors."
Â
Evan Smith | RHP/OF | 6-3 | 175 | Morgantown, W.Va. | University High School
Â
Thoughts on Evan: "Evan is a two-way player with incredible aptitude for the game. He is consistently in the mid to upper 80's on the mound. Evan has a great approach at the plate and showed plus defensive skills in the outfield. His father played collegiately at West Virginia State University for legendary coach, Cal Bailey. Evan will be attending JMU with his twin brother Casey."
Â
Casey Smith | RHP/INF | 6-3 | 185 | Morgantown, W.Va. | University High School
Â
Thoughts on Casey: "Casey is a two-way player that we feel can contribute for us early on in his career. He is rated the number one pitcher in West Virginia and is consistently in the upper 80's, touching 90 on the mound. Casey has shown the ability at the plate and defensively to play at a very high level. His father played collegiately at West Virginia State University for legendary coach, Cal Bailey. Casey will be attending JMU with his twin brother Evan."
Â
Fenwick Trimble | MINF | 6-2 | 185 | Virginia Beach, Va. | Frank W. Cox High School
Â
Thoughts on Fenwick: "Fenwick is a physical middle infielder. He has played at a high level both in high school and travel baseball, earning First Team All-Region and Second Team All-State honors. Fenwick is extremely athletic and will be able to play multiple positions at this level. He has an advanced bat that we feel is college ready."
Â
Coleman Calabrese | MINF | 6-2 | 185 | Bowie, Md. | DeMatha Catholic High School
Â
Thoughts on Calabrese: "Coleman is an athletic middle infielder with a high aptitude for the game and is a leader on and off the field. Coleman is always in position to make plays defensively. He has a short compact swing and can hit balls to all fields. His father was a college baseball player at UNCG."
Â
Daniel Quintana | RHP | 6-3 | 205 | Haymarket, Va. | Paul VI Catholic High School
Â
Thoughts on Daniel: "Daniel is a big strong right-handed pitcher in the upper 80's. Along with his skill set, his work ethic and determination to become a Duke was very impressive. He has played on big stages throughout his high school and travel baseball career and he knows how to win."
Â
Todd Mozoki | RHP | 6-1 | 185 | Cockeysville, Md. | Dulaney High School
Â
Thoughts on Todd: "Todd is a right-handed pitcher with a big frame and very loose arm. He has the ability to sink and run the ball down in the zone in the upper 80's and has already touched 90 mph. Todd has plus secondary stuff with great command. He is projectable and his potential is through the roof, as he has collected numerous accolades including being named to the Maryland preseason All-State team last year."
